The Village Tour

A village tour in Victoria Falls is an eye-opening experience that takes you away from the luxury hotels and into the heart of authentic Zimbabwean life. Depending on your preference, you can choose between a Rural Village Visit (traditional/homestead) or a Township Tour (urban/community).
The Traditional Rural Village Tour usually takes you to Monde Village, located about 10–15 miles outside of town. It is a humble, rural setting that feels largely untouched by modern urbanization. You'll see how homes are constructed from local materials (thatch and dagga), how livestock is managed, and how water is gathered from communal boreholes. You may also see "winter" and "summer" kitchens, learn about traditional medicine like using certain plants to ward off snakes, and observe the division of daily chores.
The Township Tour takes you to Chinotimba, the oldest and largest residential area in Victoria Falls. This tour focuses on the urban history and the vibrant "hustle" of modern Zimbabwean life. You'll visit significant landmarks like the local market, the oldest tavern in town, and various community churches. The highlight is often a visit to Chinotimba Primary School (if in session), where you might meet the headmaster and see the classrooms. It is high-energy and bustling. You'll see local artisans at work, people socializing at the street corners, and a different perspective of the "Smoke that Thunders" from the heart of the community.
