The Chobe Day Trip
Gallery · 19 photos
A Chobe National Park Day trip (Botswana) is often considered the best "add-on" for anyone visiting Victoria Falls. While Victoria Falls offers the spectacle of the water, Chobe provides a world-class wildlife experience, famously home to the highest concentration of elephants in Africa. Located in Botswana, just 80km (50 miles) from Victoria Falls, the park is easily accessible for a full-day safari. The Chobe River Cruise is a highlight of the trip. Viewing wildlife from the water allows you to get incredibly close to hippos, crocodiles, and massive herds of elephants as they come to the river to drink and swim. After the cruise, there is the Buffet Lunch, typically served at a riverfront lodge. You'll then head into the Chobe National Park in an open safari 4x4 game viewing vehicle. The focus here is on land-based sightings such as lions, leopards, buffaloes, giraffes, and various antelope.

Travel tip
- If you are staying in Victoria Falls and visiting Chobe for the day, the KAZA Univisa ($50 USD) is highly recommended. It allows you to enter both Zimbabwe and Zambia and covers day trips into Botswana without needing to buy a new visa upon your return.
- Your Passport is essential for the border crossing.
- While the park is open year-round, the Dry Season (May to October) is widely considered the best time for a day trip. As the inland water sources dry up, thousands of animals congregate along the Chobe River, making wildlife sightings frequent and spectacular.
- Note on Children: While most tours are family-friendly, some operators require a private vehicle for children under 4 years old due to the length of the day and safety in open vehicles. To travel into or through Botswana with a child under 18 years of age, specific documentation is strictly required to prevent child trafficking. These rules apply to all minors, regardless of their nationality. Required is a valid passport, an unabridged or certified birth certificate and a parental consent affidavit, if travelling with one parent.
